Which midsize pick up truck should I get?

Postby lula » Sat Jan 14, 2012 4:35 am

I am looking to buy a midsize pick up truck in the next year and I have been trying to do some research on all my options. I am not interested in hauling or 4 wheel drive capabilities. I am looking for something with a functional bed to transport things such as appliances for example. I am mainly interested in the Chevrolet Colorado, the GMC Canyon, or the Toyota Tacoma. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking for comfort and looks mostly. Thanks.

Hello Jen,

You’ve picked out some great trucks for what you’re looking for in a vehicle. I went to Chevrolet.com and did a Competitive Comparison between the three you identified (at the most basic trim level), and found that they are very comparable as far as interior dimensions are concerned. There was a difference in fuel economy – the Colorado and Canyon come in at 18/25, where the Tacoma comes in at 21/25. With the GM products, you would get a longer powertrain warranty (5 years/100,000 miles) when compared to the Tacoma (5 years/60,000 miles). Also, with GM, you would have a Roadside Assistance Program (5 years/100,000 miles).

I hope this is useful for you – many happy miles in your new truck!

Comfort depends on you. Looks depend on you. Sitting in both is what's ultimately gonna make you choose one or the other, not so much the opinions of strangers.

I didn't find the Colorado very comfortable, but I say that for a lot of GM cars & trucks (including the Monte Carlo I drive). I haven't driven any of the new Tacomas.

Personally, I thought the Colorado looked hideous from day one.
