Depends what you want.
Cadillac has the strong points of
Affordability
Power
Less maintenance cost
But suffers due to sharing so many components with its GM platforms. Also its resale is LOW. You can also expect issues in the interior quality (while not major, it will wear and tear faster).
BMW
Handling
Resale
High quality interior
Very durable
But BMW are WAY more expensive than a GM. For a entry level 3 series, you can have a Loaded CTS or entry level STS. Plus BMW repair and maintenance is through the roof.
Personnel preferance would be an Acura, Lexus, Mercedes or possibly Buick.
