Which Crossover-SUV is better?

Postby cameron » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:38 am

I am shopping for a spacious, safe, and roomy crossover SUV that can comfortably seat 6 adults. I plan to use this vehicle mainly for highway trips across the Great Plains (between Kentucky and Minnesota). I have narrowed down my search to these two particular vehicles:

USED-2011 Chevy Taverse LT AWD, $25,988, 19,705 miles
Rear Park Assist
Satellite Radio
Extra-price color.
http://www.bobridingschrysler.com/ (Search for a used 2011 Chevrolet Traverse)

NEW-2011 Dodge Durango Express AWD, $26,045
Back-up camera
Rear Park Assist
Touch-screen Navigation Satellite Radio
Sunroof
http://www.shermandodge.com/details/new ... 5/81574743

Please tell me which one you think is better and WHY.

Thanks.
EDIT:Oops! I see I wrote "spacious", and "roomy". Well, that was redundant, but you get the point I think. I also want to mention that the difference in fuel economy is negligible, both are IIHS top safety picks, and the Durango has 5/5 star reliability. The Traverse's ratings are not yet available.
It is impossible for the Traverse to be far more reliable. The Durango has the highest possible ratings. Here they are: http://www.edmunds.com/dodge/durango/2011/ Just click "reliability".
Actually, the Durango has a 5 year/100,000mile warranty as well. See, here:http://www.dodge.com/en/2011/durango/capability/warranty/

Do not buy the new Chrysler!!! It's the first year of the Durango and you will have a ton of issues with it. I bought an 09 Journey when they first came out and had to replace the window motor 3 times, struts at 30,000 miles, the keys needed to be reprogrammed and the radio was replaced twice. They are garbage...stay away from them!

Chevrolet traverse, chevy is far more reliable, fuel efficient and comes with a way better warranty package. You get 5years 100,000 miles that's great compared to the dodge durango. So if anything ever went wrong you wouldn't have to worry you're covered.

Being that you seem to like the Durango better, wait for the mid-cycle refresh (unless you desperately need the car soon.) The Durango recently got a full remodel meaning that it without a doubt still has issues that need to be fixed. During mid-cycle refreshes cars usually recieve better MPG, styling, performance, and safety. Read the article from Motor Trend on when to buy a car. http://www.motortrend.com/features/edit ... refresher/

The 2011 Durango is obviously a better buy. That's 19,000 fewer miles, and a FULL warranty. Plus, you get added safety features like the back-up camera, and such amenities as the sunroof, and touch-screen navigation satellite radio.

The Durango has a significantly higher tow capacity if that is of any use to you. The Durango also has much better visibility, and a quieter, smoother, ride.

The Traverse doesn't really have any advantages over the Durango except 1mpg better fuel economy on the highway.

Let me mention, though, the Traverse is a great, class leading crossover that I do not want to minimize. It just happens to have a tough competitor now.

Here are both of their reviews:http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/traverse/2011/, http://www.edmunds.com/dodge/durango/2011/

I will let you decide from there, although I would personally choose the Durango for the reasons I listed above. Good luck!
