The Bugatti Veyron is fast because despite it being a heavy car, it has a 16 cylinder engine producing 1001 horsepower and 922 ft. lbs of torque and when you reach 120 mph and with the turn of a special key, the car lowers itself to the ground and a spoiler extends from the back to go into "top speed mode" from there the car is capable of reaching its rated top speed of 253 mph.
EDIT: @Robert B, I never said the configuration of the Bugatti engine, all I said was the number of cylinders, AND, the SSC Ultimate Aero's top speed is 257mph officially. Wind tunnel testing showed the car's potential speed at 273mph, but this is unofficial.

lol riiiiiiiiiiiiight the ZR-1 top speed is 209 mph and the bugatti is fast because it has an AWD system and quad (yes four) turbos.and its not a v-16 its a w 16.they have several vids of the engine being made on youtube.btw its not the fastest nor never has been why not look into the ultimate aero SSC TT it holds the record for 272 mph.

The Bugatti is fast because it has two 4-liter V8's combined to make a W16, and then it was fitted with 4 turbos. It also has 4 wheel drive, as well as 7 radiators. While not the fastest car, it is my pick because it's not stripped out and bare bones. It has AC, full interior, stereo, and drives surprisingly easy.
