What is the life expectancy of a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LXi?

Postby leon » Fri Jan 13, 2012 7:39 pm

I am looking at buying a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LXi with about 150000 miles on it. The current owner is the first and only owner of the car, and they say they have taken care of it. The asking price is $3000, is it worth it? A mechanics opinion on the matter would be helpful if anyone would like to chime in. Thanks!

Dude, that totally depends. How often has the oil been changed (hopefully every 7000 or less)? How often has the tranny been flushed (hopefully about three times by now). Has the timing belt been replaced yet? Spark plugs?

Assuming the car is immaculate in and out, and it has been regularly maintained, then I would say you should spend no more than 1500 on it. Tops. Honestly :/

I say that because the life expectancy on a car like that (Cirrus, Avenger, Stratus, Sebring, Intrepid, etc) is about 125-150K miles. Any extra life you squeeze out of the car from now on is gravy.
And I work for Chrysler! Haha, honestly I'm a salesman up here in AK but I won't BS you on this. And to be fair, Chrysler's cars aren't all that crappy, they're just engineered to run for 100-150K miles (150 being max). So really, if you're looking to spend around 3 grand, you should be able to find a solid Toyota, Nissan, Honda, or Subaru with about 120K miles that will go strong for 50,000 more
