I thought all the M series were designed for MEN, but that doesn't mean women don't like them, right? ;-) Anyway, I think the M5 is more manly than the M3, so the M3 is better for a female - of course the convertible is a nice perk as well.

Have fun!

the 128i is too much for you, cuz you women buy the car for the way it looks and its name/brand, not because of the exhaust note, the acceleration and handling.

Echoz is plain ignorant.

I'd say, get the m3 hard top. The M5 is a bit large, and rather masculine. Not to say the m3 isn't aggressive as hell, it's just not as uh "dominant" as the m5. I'd be cautious of a girl driving a v10 m5

Whichever one you prefer and suits your needs.

Gender has nothing to do with it.

The last M5 built was really masculine, very imposing with a "mean" look to it. Generally, that attracts male buyers.

The latest M3 has swooping lines and although has a sort of "mean" look, not quite as imposing as an M5.

What's better for a woman is whichever one she likes better. But I could see a female in an M3 before an M5.

Both are very high performance machines. One is a 5-series 4 door and the other is a 3-series two door by base. Ether way, as a male, I'm not sure which would be "better" for a woman. Yes, the M3 has a convertible option, but the M5 is more practical if you have kids or frequently need extra room. A new M5 is about $30k more than an M3. Both cars can be purchased with a DKT (most people consider these automatics because they're controlled like one even tho they aren't by nature), so ether one would be about as practical for driving everyday. Compare your pro's and con's- what do you like/dislike about the M3/M5? You need to test drive both and explore both options. They're both equally ranked for simplicity/complexity of operation. I see more women in an M3 than an M5 because it's "cuter" and has the drop-top option. But the M5 is a hell of a car to put the kids in. Ether way, check them out in person and you'll have your answer.
