My buick is not starting up when I put it in drive..why is that?

When I crank up my buick, it starts but when I put it in drive it stops running. It can drive on reverse, and second gear but can not start on drive. The family mechanic tells us it's putting up a code of P0753. The car does have transmission problems..its a Buick 2002 Century. Can you please give me clues of what the problem may be? Thank you.

P0753 means your powertrain computer detects a continuous open, short to ground or short to power in the circuit to your transmission's 1-2 shift solenoid. When the code is active, your transmission runs in a fail safe/limp home mode that only lets certain gear ratios function in the transmission.

That code indicates you have a malfunctioning shift solenoid, so either the solenoid is bad or the wiring to the solenoid is bad. But since your car will shift into some gears, it is probably the solenoid.

that code is for the shift solenoid in the transmission and the reason y it wont stay running when you shift to drive is that the car goes into what most ppl call it limp mode it is a manufacturers way of saving your vehicle more damage and preventing you from damaging the trans more

Sounds like a defective neutral safety switch.
