Ok i dont know what the other people that responded were thinking but NO. A BMW is a life time commitment to be in debt. Parts are priced beyond outrageously( one of my friends that bought a BMW took it to get the pads replaced and found out it cost over $1000, JUST for the brake pads!). But if your already making 100k dollars a year and your only now getting your first car(or you want to financially support your kids car for the rest of His/Her life) and you want to devote half of that 100k to the car then feel free to buy it. If not, i really dont recommend it.

Now besides financially, a new driver wouldn't know how to use a BMW without forever destroying the car. Besides the fact that they are new to driving and 90% of people are in a car wreck at one point in time, unless they sell it before the wreck.

If you are saying to yourself I was just wondering about the 1 series not BMW in general then i would still say no. Even though someone would look at the name and say "oh its a 1 compared to 2,3,4,5,6, and 7...it must be the weakest car." Wrong. It is a M which is BMW's sports model and in the testing of this M1 it nearly blew the 2 and 3 out of the water pushing out 369lb of torque wile only weighing in at 3k pounds. Now back to the subject at hand, it is also new to production. they have only been making 1 series since 2004 its a fairly new car and therefore could have some future manufacturing problems.

So to summarize...no, never, please dont, ever buy any high end luxury expensive car as the first car. I dont care if your the Bill Gates just getting his driver licence. BAD IDEA ALWAYs....thank you for your time. :)

No. Unreliable, leading to spending money. I would get a pre-owned car or atleast a compact new car first. Later in life, if you want, you can buy a BMW and waste your money.

It is a safe car with good handling and control but well, it can't run like the Z4. It is a very easy car to drive too

Convertible versions:No. But if you get a sedan or hatchback version, it is very ideal because it handles very well, and it is a BMW. Bad things: Run Flat tires make ride worse, and not very pretty in my opinion

For a new driver? No.

A good car for a new driver is:
Honda
Toyota
Chevy
Ford
Nissan
Mazda
Subaru
Mitsubishi
Something along those lines.

A bad car for a new driver is:
Mercedes
BMW
Audi
Porsche
Lamborghini
Ferrari
Jaguar
LandRover
Cadillac
Lincoln
Maybach
RollsRoyce
or similar.

Yes if you're a single SHORT person. They are tiny but nice little cars for a new driver. Very easy to maneuver

Of course, if you can afford it then go for it. If you're a responsible driver and can afford the maintenance then go ahead and enjoy yourself!
