Is a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 good for me?

okay, so, I currently own a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I customized it, and, I can sell it quick for $7,000. (i have people offering 4 and 5 to sell it right now, and I can muster 7,000 out) I just started driving, just this month, and my plan is to learn how to drive through the class and the practice car, and put it on my eclipse, drive my eclipse for a month or two, sell that, and buy a $5,000 1996 Z28 camaro t top. the only catch with my parents is that I have to get a job to help pay for gas and isurance. but, you camaro owners, is it truely a nice car? because I would be glad to get it, as long as I can see that camaro owners are happy with it.

no, I wont race it, I am not like the others that are obsessed with speed. maybe at the drag strip on weekends, but no street racing.
you guys really dont understand, the eclipse is a synergy green with a black hood, and blitz body kit. there are some guys offering to buy it right now. its stock under the hood. but, the car is popular at the school, and im sure i can find someone willing to pay that much for the eclipse.

It takes more time and energy and stress to flip and flop and fix and sell a car so you can buy another car than you realize, and still go to school and work or what ever it is you do for money. I suggest you have your next car ready and drive it while selling the other car or you will end up running around in circles and some of the cars you want to buy may be long gone by the time you manage to put the money together. If you are going to swap cars, thats fine but trade up dont get rid of a 95 and buy a 96 get a much newer lower mileage car and its going to work out a lot better in the long run. As far as your not like " the others" thats what they all say. the 90s camaros were mostly dogs, get the turbo charged 2000 or newer, something that will rock your world because some slow pps is not going to do it the turbo charged 5.7 with a 5 speed will at least look good and sound good when you grab second and third. Have fun do it right .

I don't know what Roger is talking about, there were no turbocharged camaros. The 1996 Z28 will have the LT1. But anyway, I don't think that you'll been able to get 7 grand out of a 17 year old Eclipse, mod's generally don't add value to a car. If you have people offering 4 or 5 grand for it, then you'll probably end up getting 4 or 5 grand for it. a $5000 Z28 isn't going to be in showroom condition, it's going to have some issues and/or have high mileage. Personally I didn't car for the 4th gen F-Bodies, they driving position isn't that great, it's like you're sitting in a cave, and the interior build quality wasn't the best. Mechanically they are solid though.

There are vehicles for transportation and vehicles for other purposes.

The key phrase is this: "maybe at the drag strip on weekends".

The incompatibility is this "I have to get a job to help pay for gas and insurance"

Until you have a good-paying job that does not take all your time to earn that income, you are pursuing an expensive hobby with no income. I would not say that's good for you.

I am sorry, but no matter how customized or nice you 95 Eclipse is, at most it is worth $5000 for a low mileage clean Eclipse.

I have driven many Camaro's:

Advantages:
More comfortable and less wind noise than the Eclipse.
More space in the front and back and trunk.
Acceleration and top speed is much better than the Eclipse
The Camaro Z28 is a car that everyone wants. Classy, Muscle, Great engine.

Disadvantages:
Cheap plastic interior that is not even sporty looking.
Ride is too smooth and quiet, which makes it boring to drive.
Handling is not so good.
Gas mileage
Insurance will be higher since it has a V8, RWD, and is 2 doors.
You will have trouble with rain and snow.

Just to give you an idea. My friend was into big V8 muscle cars in highschool. He had a Cadillac Eldorado V8. Then he totalled it and bought an Integra until he can save up for another V8. He was hooked to the Handling and sound and feel of the smaller Integra. Every since then, he has owned 3 Integra's and an Acura TSX and never went back to the American V8's.

Honestly bud, I don't know if you are aware of the kind of market there is for used cars, but a messed with eclipse is not worth 7 grand. You should take the next offer of 5 provided they have the cash then and there. For the record, those camaro's aren't very nice cars. The t-tops almost always leak, and the interior is the typical piss poor GM fit and finish coupled with a very thirsty v8, sky high insurance, and so-so handling.
