i have Cadillac Seville 1991. I moved from north dakota to New jercy. my registration expires from ND on 30th sep 2011 and my insurance expires in nov 2011. Can I put my car in my parking lot and never use it? I own the car. I am just wondering can I not register car in NJ and cancel my insurance on car and not drive it. I have another car to go around.
MAd Jack thanks for your response. I love this car very much as its my first car and wont want to sell it for blood. I just want to save some money on insurance right now with this thats why I was just wondering.

This depends on local laws. In most places if the vehicle is parked on private property and not taken off the private property you don't need to license, register, or insure the vehicle.

However, there are exceptions to this rule. Some municipalities have junk car ordinances. They consider a vehicle junk if it is not registered. Check with your local police department on this. Use the non emergency number.

Personally, if you have no intentions on using the vehicle for any amount of time, why keep it. If you don't plan on using it for any amount of time I would sell it if I were you while you can still get some money for it. Allow it to rot for more than a year and you just might up selling it by the pound. Anything you make would go to the tow truck driver who hauls it away.
