This depends on local laws. In most places if the vehicle is parked on private property and not taken off the private property you don't need to license, register, or insure the vehicle.
However, there are exceptions to this rule. Some municipalities have junk car ordinances. They consider a vehicle junk if it is not registered. Check with your local police department on this. Use the non emergency number.
Personally, if you have no intentions on using the vehicle for any amount of time, why keep it. If you don't plan on using it for any amount of time I would sell it if I were you while you can still get some money for it. Allow it to rot for more than a year and you just might up selling it by the pound. Anything you make would go to the tow truck driver who hauls it away.
