I have a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T quattro, for the last week my engine has been stalling when idle or while driving, when this happens the EPC light will pop and stay on. When the car is idle at a traffic light it will completely shut down and it will take 6-8 starts to get the engine started again. When I am driving around 50-60 mph I can feel the engine stutter which lasts for about 3 seconds every minute or so. I recently had a new fuel pump installed less than 3 weeks ago, any thoughts on what the issue is here?

My first thought here is the mass airflow meter. They can be notorious for idle stalls and hesitation, especially under boost. I recommend letting the engine warm up in the driveway, and disconnecting the mass airflow meter. Doing this will definately illuminate the EPS light, but if the idle smooths up after a couple of seconds, you have likely found the culprit. The engine doesn't much care to have the meter disconnected, but when it is the source of false information, the like thereof allows the ECM to formulate airflow measurements through calculations based on good data, rather than the junk a bad air meter is providing. The meter is located on the tube jutting out of the airbox, right before it heads downward toward the turbocharger. If it doesn't help any, just plug it back in. At the next ignition cycle, the EPC light should go out again (until the car acts up again, that is). Hope that helps you out.
