1967 chevrolet impala part identification & help?

Postby nancy » Fri Jan 13, 2012 4:59 pm

I have a 1967 chevrolet impala, while reversing out of a parking lot spot and turning my car all the way to the right and reversing I herd a pop. Almost like the sound of clipping a curb, but i knew i couldn't have. After putting it in drive and accelerating i felt the passenger front tire shake, this continued every time until i got home. Upon checking i realized the image of the part attached is of the drivers side front(not sure what the name is) was all dry rotted and the metal rod is cracked vertically straight through) the passenger side is now loose being that the weight is now on the drivers side. which im guessing is the reason the passenger side was rattling? can anyone tell me what the name of that part is? is it inexpensive to fix?http://mail.aol.com/34290-311/aol-6/en-us/mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=29243560&folder=Inbox&partId=1
IN RESPONSE to "D": IT IS THE SWAY BAR LINK, THANKS! No big deal, cheap as hell to replace.
TO DON R: im actually going to school to be an auto tech. i was able to locate the problem, and can replace it no problem. just wasn't sure the name or price (parts for the 67 can get expensive sometimes.) She'll be fine before the weekend hopefully.

Your image link does not work, but it sounds vaguely like you're describing a broken sway bar link. These are cheap and easy to fix, almost any parts store would have it or can get it.

You need to put the car in the shop to be fixed. I can tell you aren't going to do the work, whatever the part is called doesn't matter. It may be a ball joint, but I can't really tell without looking.

Well the only bars in front end are

Sway bar. It will have an end link with round bushing at top and bottom of end link, plus a mounting bushing around bar with bracket that bolts to frame.

Then you have the center link/drag link which connets to the tie rods which goes to each front wheel (goes to spindel really)

Also hooked to drag link is the pitman arm which connets to bottom of steering gear box

Then idler arm on pass side to drag link
